Before you instruct us
What is an IT expert witness?
A professional with technical training in computing who gives an opinion on digital evidence and defends it in court. They can act at the request of a party, brought in by the lawyer, or be appointed by the court itself.
What is the difference between a party report and a counter-report?
A party report analyses the evidence you submit. A counter-report reviews the report submitted by the other side: chain of custody, tools used and soundness of the conclusions.
Do you confirm the report at trial?
Yes. The expert appears, confirms the report and answers questions from the parties and the court, in person or by videoconference where the court allows it.
When should I commission the expert report?
As early as possible, especially if the evidence is on a device that is still in use. If proceedings are already under way, tell us the deadline for submitting the report and we will prioritise it.
